The Mystery of Life

From where did we originate? The night sky itself solicits a curiosity of our beginnings. Where did it come from? Was it created? For what purpose? How does it maintain organization?
This is a picture from Europe's Planck Telescope. It displays the limits of the Milky Way galaxy and all the dust and gasses beyond of which humankind can develop a picture. There is much more to the universe, beyond this picture, but these images alone create a mystery that humans have long tried to answer. What questions come to you when you consider the mysteries of our planet, universe and beyond? Connect those questions with pictures or links and share in the comments.

  1. When I think about the mysteries of our planet, universe, and beyond, I think mostly about the afterlife and wonder "How old are people in heaven?" I googled around asking this question and found several sources with people claiming that they had visited heaven and they were either children, adults, or the age they had died at. Without a definite answer, I decided to share the most credible source I found which was an article written by MSNBC about a young boy who claimed he visited heaven during a short period of time where his body was inactive. In the article, it states that he told his parents that he had met his unborn sister who had died as a result of a miscarriage, without ever knowing that his mother had once suffered one. He also claimed that everyone was in their 20s or 30s in heaven which made me make the connection to Jesus who has been estimated to have died when he was thirty three. This led me to the answer that everyone is around their twenties or thirties when they die.

    1. The Eagle Nebula, what should be the birth of a star from gaseous clouds. However, numerous assumptions have been made through adjustments in the photo that a shape of a human figure seems to appear in the clouds. But in my point of view this is just another coincidence and a waste of time from what scientists and reporters claim to call this phenomenal. Although the picture still has some odd things. According to the picture, strange colors of blueish-green tend to be colored around the clouds, but as it gradually goes out it turns dark blue and then turns pitch black. This made me believe that although there might not be a face, the Eagle Nebula is still very strange and has no definite answer.

    1. As I narrow down my interests of mysteries happening in this world, I have chose to talk about paranormal spirits whether they exist in our world or not. Do paranormal species do exist in real life? This topic has sparked my interest since I was a young kid. Even today, I wonder whether they exist or not, therefore I chose to research this debatable question viewing from different perspectives. Many have spoken that they have witnessed paranormal species such as ghosts and monsters in real life. Every country has a different perspective on how they envision paranormal species. This occurs as a part of people's culture, for instance, many ghosts’ appearances are different in many countries. Some religion view paranormal species as demons and evil spirits, representing evil and damned, on the other hand, some paranormal species can be represent peace and kindness such as angels. Many people believe these paranormal species exist and has spoken that they have witnessed these species before.
Despite all the belief on paranormal species being real, many people mock these people who believe paranormal species and tend to think that ghosts and demons do not exist. People have found evidence to prove that these spirits exist, however the unbelievers still doubt that it is true and tend to claim that these evidences are fake.
Evidences include video clips and photos. This site has some amazing photos and videos caught paranormal ghosts. Depends on you whether you believe paranormal species really do exist or not.

  7. The way I have been brought up in a surrounding where God is worshipped as the person who sees us and according to our deeds gives us our fruit, I believe that after death our souls are taken by God. Yes, I strongly believe that in each and every one of us God exists as souls are manipulations of Him. In order to experience how it feels like to be able to connect with Him, meditation or prayer is very important. I would like to share a story of a person who was able to achieve that enlightment.
My mother's friend was one day in a very irritated situation because of a problem going on in her house. In order to just separate her mind from all that fuss, she started meditating. She meditated with such a high level of concentration that she felt as if she had been lifted from the ground and transported to a place which is unacceptable to tell to anyone. She had experienced God's love for her. They say that once you attain enlightment, you shouldn't tell anyone about it as that love is just for you and shouldn't be shared.

Therefore, in order to complete my comment, I would like to say that there exists a power which watches us and loves us and in order to communicate with him and be with him whenever we die, we must pray to Him.

  8. For my mystery, I wondered what strange things are in our galaxy and came across a bizarre celestial body called a Quasar. My first reaction was "What is this?" After doing a bit of research into Quasars, I discovered that they are very, very bright objects that are very, very far away. This means that by looking at Quasars we are seeing objects as they were very early on in the creation of the universe.

This makes me wonder; how exactly do these Quasars fit in with other celestial bodies such as pulsars, nebulas and such. As it turns out, these are very energetic active galactic nuclei. Cosmologists suggest that they are super-massive black holes where matter around the accretion disc gives off intense amounts of energy just before falling in.

These are a wonder to see, especially one seen in the form of a DRAGN: http://www.cv.nrao.edu/~abridle/images/3C31_radio_optical_montage_Alan_Bridle.png.

Here you can see why DRAGN is the only name that can do it justice.

Scientists believe that our galaxy was once like this in its early days. This may be one of many pieces yet to discover in the search for an answer to the process of universe's creation.

  9. I was wondering whether the true colors that we see everyday are actually wrong and were the color blinded people and the color blinded people see the true colors. I researched into this idea and I have found that color really comes from the light, as in sunlight. The light can be reflected on objects to be seen as "brown", "yellow", "red" etc. For example: when light is reflected off an apple, the reflected light is red, so that makes the color of the apple red.

The definition of Color blindness is: a color perception problem whose most common ailment is a red-green deficiency. Which means that people who are color blinded don't have many red or green pigments and the people can't tell the difference between the color red or green. Color blindness is basically a genetic deficiency.

So back to my question, I think my question was too complicated, but I did learn that we are not the color blinded people because only 7% of all males and 4% of all females can only get color blindness. Which means that the 93% of us males and the 96% of the females are the majority and are not color blinded since most people already proved that the colors that the majority sees are the true colors of the world.

  11. Question:
    Is time travel possible?

    Opinion:
In my opinion, the answer to this question depends on how one would define the term ‘time travel’.
If one was to define time travel as time passing by, then yes – time travel is possible, and is happening right now: one second per second.
However, if one were to define time travel as the action of traveling through the fabric of time into the future, I do believe that time travel is possible as well. Time passes more slowly the closer you approach the speed of light. Thus, the hands of a clock in a speeding train would move more slowly than those in a stationary clock. If such a train could attain 99.999 percent light speed, only 1 year would pass onboard for every 223 years back at the train station.
Lastly, if one were to define time travel as the action of traveling back into the past, it would be a different story as compared to the other two. I strongly believe that time travel back into the past is not possible as of now, and never will be. If it was, we would have achieved communication with our descendants. Furthermore, time travel into the past would set up an array of contradictory situations – what if you were to go back in time, and kill your own mother? How would you then be alive to kill your own mother?

  12. question: are there parellel universes?

Have you ever wished that you were something else? That a certain thing could have happened to you? Well, according to the theory of parellel universes, there is a different universe for every single outcome. So your wish has come true in some distant universe. What i'm wondering is if they actually exist. So every single second I live, there are an infinite number of universes created producing multiple outcomes of multiple mes, and we're all unaware of each other. I actually want this to exist, because if it were true, then in some universe, I would be batman.

  13. In the process of deciding what mystery question to choose, I explored the concept of an after-life and if there is a heaven. According to Dr. Maurice Rawlings, from extensive interviews of individuals with near-death experiences and seeming periods of slipping past life, many recount seeing images we often attribute to a heavenly place (and, in some cases, to a hellish one).

  16. Do Parallel Universes exist?

For years the idea of “parallel universes” has been a popular subject to write about amongst sci-fi authors, and has always been thought of as completely fictional. Although it is a very fictional topic, physicists now believe that there may be, in fact, multiple parallel universes (as discussed in this article:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/horizon/2001/paralleluni.shtml )
This may or may not be true (we’d never really know unless we have solid proof or a way to visit these universes) but the idea of it being true raises many more questions. For example, would these other universes be exactly parallel to ours? How many are there? Are there humans like us that speak like us? Are there exact copies of every single living thing in our universe? We’d never know. It is considered a huge mystery because the means of finding out the truth are close to impossible. That is why the topic of parallel universes is such a popular foundation of fictional writing because of the vast possibilities of what the worlds are like.

  17. Is Osama Bin laden really dead?

I think he’s truly dead, as the government had said, though some people still don’t believe it. They think that the government may just be hiding it from people to ease the nervousness of the people. It makes sense as to why the government would do that, but that wouldn't be safe at all for the people. There's many rumors as to this, and not everyone is really that sure though that he is. Some people say that they've seen him walking around, and that he's really alive, but I think those people are just trying to get a name in society, and try to make money off of making wrong rumors. I really, really hope that he's certainly dead because that would let EVERYONE in the world have a huge sigh of relief.

  18. Hi Toby here, as I was thinking about a mystery to choose, I started to think. What if there really was intelligent life on other planets? Would they have similar beliefs to us? So I tied into what my beliefs are, as a christian, and came up with the question, "Did God create life on other planets?"Well according to http://creation.com/did-god-create-life-on-other-planets, The bible states that "The Whole creation groans and travails under the weight of sin." (Romans 8:18-22) And that "When Christ (God) appeared in the flesh, He came to Earth not only to redeem mankind but eventually the whole creation back to Himself" (Romans 8:21, Colossians 1:20) So the question of whether or not GOD truly did make life on other planets is still a mystery to this day.

  19. A Parallel Universe?

Have you ever wondered if our dreams were some kind of other universe? That we were our dreams' dreams, and that we weren't the real things? That our daily lives are the dreams that OUR dreams have? I have thought of this several times, so I decided to look into this for this assignment. I want to know if other people think it is possible or if people think that there are parallel universes. According to Fox news, this research is no stranger to scientist. Apparently science proves parallel universes to be real. Although this is hard to believe, the scientist say that this "freaky science" is in all ways very true using the theories of science.

  21. I have these random moments when I step back and wonder about inexplicable things that make everything else even more confusing. One of these pondering thoughts is 'what is reality?'. Reality could be something our minds have created. People, things, and places might just be figments of our imaginations. It's not set and stone on whether something is real or not. Illusions make us see things in a way different than what we are used to; but how do we know that the illusion is wrong and we are right? How can we be sure that things are the way they are? Can we be sure that when looking away from an object it stays the same as when we are looking at it? Ken J Ward suggests that this uncertainty can even be shown through conclusions made in science. One theory proves this while another refutes it. In science itself, its almost as if there is no wrong or right. What exists and what doesn't? Does everyone just have their own realities? Movies like Inception make it unclear on what is the reality, isn't it the same for this world too? Is it even our own world? I've concluded that reality is what ever we choose. We can choose our own realities and our choice is official. Everything might be happening in our heads, but that doesn't mean it isn't real.

  22. What was the Mafiosi attitude towards women?

When watching crime films based on the mafia such as ‘The Godfather’ or ‘Goodfellas’, I always had an unanswered question. What about the women? Although these films showed glimpses of home life and the role of women, they were largely male oriented because the mafia has historically been a male oriented society, The terms ‘wise guys’ and ‘made men’ are clear indicators of a male driven crime organization. Women are simply not portrayed in depth in many mafia films and novels and the only way in which a women is portrayed is through the story of the male protagonist. It seems that amongst the thrill of killing, betrayal, honor, and sacrifice that surrounds the tales of men in the mafia, the story of women has simply been lost. It made me wonder whether the chivalry and gallantry of men in the mafia was a myth. Were the men really gallant, dashing and honorable or did their violent external lives seep into their private, personal lives? What exactly was the Mafiosi’s attitude towards women?

The answer is still shrouded in mystery. The term Omérta which keeps information within the mafia makes it hard to delve into their private lives. My conclusion comes from publicized cases. The Mafia seemed to respect women but they also used them as a form of punishing other men. Just like the ‘made men’ respected and treated their friends with generosity and ruthlessly murdered their rivals, they also largely respected the women in their lives but showed no compassion to the women in the lives of others. The rest, the more intimate details, remains a mystery.

  23. Could there really be a monster living in Loch Ness? This so called lake monster nicknamed Nessie was brought to attention in 1933 when a London man and his wife caught site of this creature. Since then, scientists have begun to investigate the area in search of this unknown monster. The animal's existence is still questionable since no evidence has been found to prove it as a living creature. However, this August, a Scottish sailor, George Edwards, has claimed to have taken the best picture of the Loch Ness Monster.
    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/08/scottish-sailor-claims-to-have-best-picture-yet-of-loch-ness-monster/
The picture itself is still problematic. The small blurb of brown peeping out of the water could be the creature itself or just a log. George Edwards has spent the past 26 years searching for this monster. He believes that there are a few of these monsters living in Loch Ness. There are hundreds of theories and myths relating to the Loch Ness Monster living under this deep and dark body of water. Yet, none of them have been scientifically proved right thus making the existence of this creature a mystery.

  24. As I was reading the bible, a question arose in my head. Sure, we will be saved when Jesus comes again. And that is when everyone will be judged into Heaven or Hell: the good or the evil. But currently, we are still waiting for the Messiah to come again and yet, people are dying every second. Where do they go? Surely not to Heaven nor Hell since the time of judgment has not come yet… so where? According to this link (http://www.rodsgarden.50megs.com/wheredie.htm with supporting bible verses) the dead go to a waiting place. People who are destined to go to either Heaven and Hell wait in different places however: one good and one bad. But this raises only more questions. Who judges them to wait in these places? What do they do there? And more! For this reason and also because different sources each say different things (because people can interpret the Bible in many different ways), the question of after-death as a Christian remains a mystery.

  25. My mystery is about ancient aliens. Since ancient times, people have been talking about aliens. Ancient alien theorists believe that aliens had landed on Earth thousands of years ago and helped shape human civilization. However, there is no proof that it actually happened. Aliens have not been proven to be in existence, yet people are trying to unravel the truth about the mystery. I believe that it is likely that there are aliens outside of Earth and even among us. One thing that comes up to mind when thinking about aliens is UFO. Many claimed to have seen UFOs. Even today, people claim to have seen them. A few days ago, in August 21, 2012, a person reported that he had seen unknown lights in Duluth, Minnesota. He claimed to have sighted blinking lights. Could they be the same aliens that have been claimed to have visited Earth before? Reports like this one remain mysterious. Nevertheless, I believe that the existence of ancient aliens does not need to be proven. This article explains more about ancient aliens.

  26. Stonehenge
The Stonehenge is prehistoric monument from the prehistoric era. It is located in England, and its function and construction had always been a mystery. Where are the stones coming from? how were the stones put up like this between 2000BC and 300BC? why was it constructed? how could it have stayed so long? Science can only give us some numbers, but no writing existed, so we will never know. It is a mystery.
