Oh God come save us,
Fly with the wings you have
Soar to our world with us
Through the blue sky above
With the head of an eagle
Eat away the worms and evil
With the wings of an eagle
Flap and push the wind out of our hearts
We come sacrifice to the red shield
Red as blood
Grey as darkness
Shield us from evil
The world is full of earthly potential
Green and brown is found around
Fertile soil dug deep in the ground
Plants are grown around
Buddhism Reflection
During our 8th fold path meditation, we experienced the different thoughts that comes to mind when we think about peace. Through "right view" or the "right speech", we learned to obtain peace my meditating. It was kind of shocking to see what was in our minds and what we wrote. When we walked around outside, we learned to "kiss" the ground with our feet and not kill anything under our feet. The meditation was full of peaceful thoughts and it was a joy to experience it.
Our walk to the Buddhist Temple near our school was a tiring path to walk. The trail to the path was very rough and had many hills to go up to. It was a rather cold morning, so it felt like a good day to walk. The Buddhist temple was very large looking and there were many sculptures to be found throughout the whole temple area. In the main temple praying area, there were more than 1000 sculpted Buddhas in there. It was a great view to see and a very good experience to have.
My Own Shema
I believe that there is a God. I believe that he is a Holy God, a Gracious God, and a Loving God. My idea of God is that he is holy. The holiness of God is that he is separate from sin and incorruptible. God is also Gracious when he loves us with all his heart and all his soul. God is loving because in the Bible God is known as being love itself.
Experience
I don't really have a specific experience, but whenever I listen to music about Jesus I think about God and how much of a christian I really am.
CHRISTMAS SERVICE
The service I went to was close to the mountains in the east of South Korea. It was early in the morning, so it looks like my face is sad, but I was just really tired. The service was about the birth of Jesus Christ and how one should act during Christmas and New Years. The pastor said not to just party all the time, Christmas and New Years is a time to spend with Family. The songs that were played were "Noel", "Joy to the World" and "3 Kings". The service was in Korean, so in some parts I didn't understand what they were saying, so my parents gave me a summary of the whole service. Not many people were at the service because the church was smaller than most churches, but the sermon was good and the songs that were sung were also good.

Gandhi and Yoga Reflection
ReplyDeleteThe first quote I have chosen is, “An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind”. Gandhi’s actions have supported this quote because every time the British retaliated to the protest from the Hindus and Muslims, the Hindus and Muslims showed no violence and civil disobedience throughout the whole movie. This quote is described throughout the movie.
The second quote I have chosen is, “’Love thy neighbor as thyself’ is not something we Hindus prescribe to, but it is something we could learn from”. The part “Love thy neighbor as thyself” is found in the Bible. Gandhi has shown actions that he truly loves everyone equally. Even the lowest people of the social class, the untouchables, Gandhi treats them as equals. Gandhi believes that Muslims and Hindus should love each other and not hate. This quote is all described thoroughly throughout the whole movie.
During our yoga session, I have learned that one needs calmness in the mind. When doing our yoga session, many of us felt not very flexible enough to do a simple bend of the back. The main components that people need in order to do yoga are to have full concentration, calmness of the mind and peace within the body. The yoga session was very enjoyable and relaxing.
Eric,
ReplyDeleteExcellent poem. Good perspective, good understanding of the needs of prehistoric man and their use of spiritualism. Well done!
Eric,
ReplyDeleteGood choice of quotes, but you needed to be more specific about the context. Additionally, how did Gandhi's understanding of Hinduism influence his political choices? What was it about Hinduism that made Gandhi so committed to non-violence and equality?
What were the actions in the yoga exercise that helped you become calmer? What about your "atman"?
Eric,
ReplyDeleteThis is more of a summary of our days, rather than INSIGHTS that you gained about yourself. What did the meditation teach you? What was "shocking" about what came to mind during the meditation? You need to think more deeply about the applications of the experience.
Eric,
ReplyDeleteGood description of God and your limited experience- life will bring you more. However, a Shema is what you would actually say to him, should you meet him.
